Kell Brook "Khan’s performance was amateurish against McCloskey"

Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) wasn’t impressed with the performance from WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) in his recent 6th round technical decision victory over Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) on April 16th. Brook, who is currently ranked #2 by the WBO and one of the best fighters in the welterweight division, described Khan’s performance as “amateurish” against McCloskey and felt that boxing fans didn’t see a good fight. Brook thinks that Khan doesn’t want any part of fighting him.

This is what Brook had to say at Sky Ringside: “Amateurish. He [Khan] was taking a lot of shots and missing. I don’t think the fans got the fight they were expecting to see. I believe I got Khan’s number. People around him don’t want it. He don’t want it. He knows I got his number. Let’s do it over here in the UK and give fans what they want to see.”

Khan could have easily taken on Brook in his last fight but instead chose the little known McCloskey. It would have been a fight that almost surely would have wound up on Sky Box Office pay-per-view instead of being moved down to Sky 3 like Khan’s fight with McCloskey. It would have been a much more competitive fight without a doubt because many people think that Brook has the power and the skills to beat Khan.

Brook recently signed with a new promoter and plans on fighting in June against a notable opponent. He plans on making big noise in 2011 and 2012 after a disappointing 2010 where Brook was matched against obscure opponents.
