Sheffield welterweight Kell 'The Kid' Brook has been convicted of common assault - after punching a Barnsley nightclub bar manager who tried to stop him going into the ladies' toilets.
Brook, on the verge of a crack at a world title, was found to have hit Ryan Casey in the ribs before swinging for his face, catching him "proper hard" with a blow to the jaw.
They breed 'em tough in Barnsley and Casey must be no exception - Brook has 14 knockouts on his log. One hopes the chap has recovered.
Magistrates found Brook guilty of common assault by beating. Sentencing was adjourned for reports. Barnsley Magistrates' Court heard Brook had been out with friends at the Che nightclub in Barnsley celebrating his birthday.
Lots of questions remain unanswered here. Why was Kell trying to go into the ladies' toilet? Did you know that Barnsley had a nightclub? Will Ryan 'Cocktail' Casey be in the next Prizefighter line up?
Ironically, Brook, who recently sported a 'I wouldn't cheat on Cheryl Tweedy' T shirt, now has something in common with the Geordie sex symbol. She was also convicted of assault after an attack in a nightclub toilet.
Hopefully Kell - who I've always found to be a very personable lad - will learn from this unsavoury incident and move on with his life and career. He could very well be the best we've got and if he has any sense he should act on the advice of his trainers, Brendan and Dominic Ingle.
